RECS Signout

Signout is the heart of the RECS program. It centralizes tasks that usually distract providers from what they’re best at: seeing patients and making clinical decisions.

Short and Direct: The signout is focused on patient care. The system is simple to access, quick to update and easy to print. If you carry around the RECS signout, you carry the most critical information about your patient.

Focused on Care: Assign attendings, residents, nurses or other providers to individual patients. Group patients by team or by ward. Sort by name, identification, medical record number or clinical details. Customize the system to fit your work flow.

Task Driven: RECS allows users to create "to-do" lists to flag critical tasks, ensuring that the incoming team can carry out time-sensitive responsibilities effectively.

Safety Oriented: See your patient’s medications, allergies, and recent test results on the same page as their problem list. Never go into a patient’s room without knowing in one sentence the most important reason that they’re in the hospital. Stop wondering, “Where do I look to find out this patient’s code status?”

Faster Hospital Discharges: RECS allows physicians to easily identify potential patient discharges. This improves communication between residents, attendings, nurses, and discharge managers.

RECS Notes

Reliable: Admission notes, daily progress notes and discharge summaries are generated automatically from the signout. Medications, studies and a summary of the patient’s past medical history appear on every note. An assessment and plan is easy to edit, supplement and revise, making it clear what’s happening to each patient, every day.

Legible: The electronic printed notes created by RECS are always legible. They are date and time stamped with the author’s name and pager number prominently displayed.

Billing: The formatted and templated RECS notes result in better compliance with Medicare billing regulations and are a significant time savings for resident and attending documentation.

No JCAHO “Banned Abbreviations”: Before notes can be printed, signed, and placed in the patient chart, RECS scans and identifies all JCAHO banned abbreviations. This results in near 100% compliance with JCAHO regulations.

Advantages

RECS has helped many hospital systems improve their workflow.

Fewer Medical Errors: RECS provides access to relevant and critical patient information in a concise format. In an era of increased resident hand-offs and increased patient volume, this type of standardized communication reduces the frequency of preventable medical errors.

Improved HIPAA Compliance: In most hospitals, signout is not HIPAA compliant. It often consists of a Word document or a handwritten list, too often residing on a shared hospital drive or in flash memory. RECS is fully HIPAA compliant, replacing often insecure alternatives.

Resident Satisfaction: Because of the time savings and reduction in redundancy of daily work, RECS plays a significant role in improving resident morale and overall program satisfaction.

Report Features: RECS allows administrative access to the system, tracking the flow of information and generating custom reports on resident work and patient care.

Teaching: RECS can track notes and analysis over the course of an entire residency, allowing to residents to review their progress with a master clinician over the course of months or years.

Improved Continuity: RECS allows for improved continuity of care between inpatient admissions and outpatient visits by providing critical information including problem lists and medications all on a single page.

EHR Bridge: RECS is a complementary technology to Electronic Health Records and can simplify the transition to new EHR solutions.
